What is Compounding?
Compounding is embedding objects into your equipment to increase its statistics. For example, many swords can be compounded to increase their Accuracy, while many staves can be compounded for increased Luck. In general, this is achieved by collecting a set of level/stat appropriate compound item and taking it to Alchemist Nate in Paradise, Carbigal, or Aquarius. Most items have between one and four compound slots that can be filled with items that are dropped by monsters around the island.
You cannot break a piece of equipment by compounding it with items.
When Compounding Goes Wrong...
Mature compounding sounds helpful, but it is not always very successful. For example, if you have a Level 50 Ultimate Steel Helm with three slots, you might want to attach Jackstones to it to increase your Attack Power. If all goes well, you might get as much as 300AP through compounding. However, you may only get 150 AP if your compounding is unsuccessful. How to Increase the Success Rate of Mature Compounding?
There are many things that help on Mature Compound. There are elixirs that the increase minimum and maximum values of the compound items, as well as the odds of getting higher values during compounding. These items can be obtained through MyShop (Use -> Modifiers), LvUP boxes, and from some events. LK is also a stat that helps in mature compound, as you can see in its description. However, there is speculation in the effetiveness of LK. (Higher may not always be better)
Additionally, Sense Type characters have a First Job Skill called "Compound Mastery" that helps in getting better compound results. There is also speculation that this skill may or may not help in compounding at all.
Removing Compound Items
By purchasing a Nate's Bottle item from MyShop, you can delete items from one compound slot on a piece of equipment. You can also sometimes get Nate's bottles by LvUp gift boxes and occasionally from events.
Keep in mind that, when you remove the mature compound in the selected equipment slot, you will not recover the items used in that mature compound. However, this opens up the slot so that you can compound again for a better result.
Attribute Compounding
A popular thing for melee characters is to compound elemental attribute (ATTR) onto weapons to dramatically increase the damage done. All attributes are essentially the same. Soil works as good as Dark, Air, etc. The only difference is if a monster is RESISTANT to Soil, then soil ATTR wont work so well agains that particular monster.
The ATTR works by percentages. For example, if you get a sword, and without anything compounded onto it, you attack melee for 500 damage. If you compound 100% Soil attribute onto it, it will do 100% more damage, and you will now do 1000 damage. ATTR only works for melee skills. It does NOT affect any sheep skills. There's only a VERY few number of skills that reply on ATTR, a few of these being, Buffalo elemental skills, dark lord's dark skills, and champion's fire skill.
